About Us
Mission Statement

Mission Statement

The HAVEN ALF’s are dedicated to providing excellent care that meets their residents' needs in an ethical and responsible manner. To this end, the HAVEN ALF’s have adopted the following general statement of principles to guide their actions. While recognizing that the needs of seniors are unique and that no uniform 'standard of care' can be developed which embraces or addresses the needs of all residents, the HAVEN ALF’s believe these general principles provide a basic framework of our mission to the communities we serve and our entire society.

TO OUR RESIDENTS AND THEIR FAMILIES WE PLEDGE:

To enhance the lives of our residents...

  • Encourage residents to achieve and maintain their maximum level of independent function.
  • Provide choices and options, through risk management programs and other means, to meet resident's needs and encourage them to continue to be actively involved in decisions about their care needs.
  • Preserve each resident's dignity and privacy.

To nurture our residents...

  • Assess each resident's needs and reassess appropriately.
  • Provide appropriate and cost-effective services.

To provide safe environments and caring, competent staff...

  • Ensure staff have appropriate background, skills, experience and ensure that they receive necessary training to support the services offered.

To inform residents and families about services provided...

  • Detail services available, related costs and policies relating to charges, including any changes in charges.
  • Explain thoroughly the criteria or parameters for changing the level of service, including policies relating to transfers from the residence.
  • Where appropriate, provide family members access to all of the information about services and involve them in decision making.
  • Identify other services available through arrangements with the provider or independently.
  • Disclose existence of financial relationships with affiliated or independent providers of ancillary services.

TO OUR COMMUNITY WE PLEDGE:

  • To coordinate care with other providers when necessary.
  • To help the public & policymakers understand assisted living.
  • To maintain a responsive attitude to evolving care needs of residents and respond proactively and cooperatively with other groups to best serve the needs of residents.

“Success will be determined by the residents and

community in which we serve”

Philosophy Statement

The HAVEN Assisted Living recognizes the variety of interests, abilities, and needs of the elderly.  The HAVEN Assisted Living also believes in the social model for services and programming which emphasizes involvement in activities of life at whatever level is possible or desired.

All services will focus on assistance.  Our role is not to “do for,” but to “assist with” each resident’s identified needs.  By emphasizing assistance, we will support independence and promote dignity for the residents at this residence.

Activity and service intensity will be determined by the interest, abilities, and functional limitations of the identified resident’s needs.  An Individualized Service Plan (032-05-020/2) will be developed for each resident, using a team approach with resident, family, and staff participation.

The HAVEN ALF’s philosophy of care:

·         The HAVEN utilizes residential homes for Assisted Living, providing individuals with a full service Assisted Living Facility (ALF) without the ‘Institutionalized’ feel of an ALF.

·         The HAVEN ALF’s are 3 to 4 bedroom single family homes located in residential and rural communities located in Mechanicsville and surrounding counties providing multiple convenient locations to serve residents and the community.

·         The HAVEN ALF’s provide the comforts of a familiar home environment that depart from ‘Institution Style Living’.

·         The HAVEN ALF’s provide residents with a secure feeling of “independent living”, dignity, and the sense of “home living” while providing 24 hour on-site care and assistance.

·         The HAVEN ALF’s offer cost-effective quality care that is personalized for individual needs.

·         The HAVEN ALF’s foster independence for each resident.

·         The HAVEN ALF’s treat each resident with dignity and respect.

·         The HAVEN ALF’s promote the individuality of each resident.

·         The HAVEN ALF’s allow each resident choice of care and lifestyle.

·         The HAVEN ALF’s protect each resident's right to privacy.

·         The HAVEN ALF’s nurtures the spirit of each resident.

·         The HAVEN ALF’s involve family and friends, as appropriate, in care planning and implementation.

·         The HAVEN ALF’s provide a safe, residential environment.

·         The HAVEN ALF’s make the Assisted Living residence a valuable community asset.

 ·         The HAVEN ALF’s Provide Private and Semi-Private Rooms.

Assisted Living Program Concept
The HAVEN Assisted Living Program is built on the productivity theory of aging which identifies that what we do and contribute in a day, its what makes us value ourselves or see ourselves as worthwhile at the end of each day.

To accomplish this, The Haven Assisted Living encourages residents to be involved in activities, to volunteer within the residence or larger community, and to continue to do the chores within their living quarters that give them satisfaction. Who said if you are in an assisted living program you can no longer dust or iron or prepare your own bed?

Many elderly people resist institutional settings because they fear what living in that residence will take from them. The HAVEN Assited Living continually involves residents in activities of daily living (ADLs).

The HAVEN Assisted Living provides only the support needed at whatever point a Resident cannot complete a task themselves. To accomplish this, an INDIVIDUALIZED SERVICE PLAN (032-05-020/2) is developed for each resident. It is unique to the Resident and covers ADLs and IADLs — what the staff will do for the residents and what the residents will do themselves.

Assistance is not to do for (which is an active--passive relationship), but rather to assist with (which requires an active--active relationship). With this approach, you are really saying, “I can’t assist you if you don’t assist me.”
The INDIVIDUALIZED SERVICE PLAN (032-05-020/2) is an important component of this program. It is through this plan The Haven Assisted Living communicates to all staff, provide the support needed, and reference changes in support as the resident ages in place.

When more support is needed or alternate living arrangements are necessary, the INDIVIDUALIZED SERVICE PLAN (032-05-020/2) helps identify the areas of struggle.
The CAREGIVER is an attempt to model that versatility. The HAVEN Assisted Living does not want to “mother” our residents, but we do want to provide a contact point, someone who looks out for them. This person cleans for the residents, visits with them, participates in and leads activities, serves meals in the dining room, does the laundry, reads the mail, etc.
